Continuing a tradition of more than 25 years, RM Auctions’ highly anticipated Monterey sale returns to downtown Monterey, California, August 16-17, coinciding with the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance week. In 2012, the flagship RM sale realized a spectacular $96 million, headlined by a GT40 that achieved a remarkable $11 million. This year’s auction is set to continue the momentum, presenting an outstanding selection of blue-chip automobiles spanning the gamut from sports and racing exotics to elegant coachbuilt classics.

Building upon RM’s reputation for presenting important and historic Ferraris in Monterey, the sale features no less than 25 examples from the famed Italian marque, highlighted by a multi-million-dollar 1955 Ferrari Monza Spider and a 1954 Ferrari 600 Mondial Spider Series 1 by Pinin Farina, one of eight Ferraris offered without reserve from the estate of William H. Tilley. Additional sports and racing highlights include a historic 1955 Jaguar D-Type, a 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra with impeccable documentation, and a trio of significant Maseratis, including a 1960 Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage, a 1953 Maserati A6G/2000 Spyder by Frua, and a 1953 Maserati A6GCS/53 Spider by Fantuzzi.

Enthusiasts of pre-war touring cars will delight in an elegant selection of coachbuilt classics led by a fabulous 1931 Duesenberg Model SH Murphy Convertible Coupe with rare ‘disappearing-top’ coachwork and an exceptional 1935 Hispano-Suiza K6 Cabriolet by Brandone representing one of the marques most coveted models.
